31 people were killed in a industrial fire in Bangladesh

31 people were killed and dozens wounded last week in a industrial fire in Bangladesh. The fire occurred in a textile factory in Tongi, 25 km from teh capital city, Dhaka. According to our sources, the fire started as a result of a boiler explosion at 6:00 am.

It was a textile factory where up to 250 employees were working during the night shift at the moment of the fire.

A fire strikes again Bangladesh after occurred in another textil complex burned in 2012 killing 117 people. This was the major fire in the history of Bangladesh at that moment.

What can we do in order to prevent it?

The textile sector is one of the main sectors of the country and employs more than 4 million people. If fires continue happening and nothing is done about it, the death toll in other future textile industries can be drastically increased. We are aware that this is a poor country with few resources. However, security and life can not have a price.

In order to prevent flames to spread from the production area to the office area, we recommend you to read our last article about firewalls in industrial units. If we want limit the risk of fire spread across the plants, then we should split the different industrial zones or floors.
