The best solution to reduce the negative impact of forest fires

Despite the complexity of the issue we are talking about, the solution seems to be fairly clear, and there is a broad consensus among experts, researchers and even, increasingly, among conservation groups.

The best solution, the most sustainable and effective, is to recover the traditional agricultural and forestry activities. By enhancing the primary sector, by using wood, understanding what is a renewable resource; regulating the harvesting of mushrooms and fruits; by promoting the use of biomass to generate energy; recovering grazing and cork and resin farms… by taking measures to promote forests profitable again, courageous measures such as the use of fire as a tool to reduce fuel.

And all this in the context of a forest management that follows the principles of multifunctionality and ensure a proper land management. It’s not easy, but if this is achieved not only the fuel will remain at more sustainable levels, but ignitions will also be reduced as well as the negative impact of forest fires. If the mountain gives money to people, there will be more jobs, there will be more population in the territory and no interest in burning it.
