Logistics and Fire Safety: An Innovative Project in Torrejón de Ardoz

At mercor tecresa®, we combine logistics and fire safety, to share our contribution to Sesé’s new multimodal logistics centre in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid. This project, led by our “Smoke Evacuation department”, represents a significant step forward in the safety and efficiency of logistics facilities, aligned with Sesé’s sustainability and functionality objectives.

A State-of-the-Art Logistics Centre

Sesé has invested 16 million euros in the creation of this logistics centre, which extends over 15,000 square meters and has 16 loading docks. Designed to serve the retail and textile industry, these facilities are ready to meet any customized need in the reception of goods, customs management, quality control and shipment of goods.

Additionally, this centre is not only limited to the region of Madrid. It will manage both national and international goods, also acting as a second-line logistics centre for the goods passing through Madrid airport. This approach strengthens Sesé’s global logistics activity, which operates in 20 countries and employs more than 11,000 people.

 

Our Contribution to Safety

Here are some of its standout features:

  • Robust structure: Made of galvanized steel to ensure durability and resistance.
  • Thermal insulation: 20 mm thick base, finished for deck roofs.
  • Polycarbonate dome: Available in OPAL or transparent versions, rated B-s1, d0.
  • Opening and closing system: Operated by pneumatic pressure, with emergency thermal fuse.
  • Certification: Compliance with EN 12.101-2 and CE marking.

 

Installed a Control Unit that includes:

  • Electro-pneumatic control panel: Automatic opening of the smoke vents.
  • Freecooling system: Manually opening of the smoke vents for natural ventilation, including weather monitoring unit, with a rain sensor, wind sensor and with anti-condensation thermal resistance.
  • Emergency button: Light and sound alarm for critical situations.
  • Batteries: Batteries that will allow the opening of the smoke vents in case of shortage of power supply.
  • Air compressor: including CO2 bottles to allow a correct opening and closing of the smoke vents.

Commitment to Sustainability

The new logistics centre of Sesé also stands out for its focus on sustainability.

It is equipped with energy-saving systems, such as energy-efficient LED lighting presence control. Besides a photovoltaic installation with chargers for electric cars, and has obtained the BREEAM sustainability certification.

This commitment not only reduces environmental impact. But also optimizes operating costs in the long term, aligning with mercor tecresa® vision of providing comprehensive and sustainable solutions in every project.

 

Impact on Employment and Economy

The logistics centre in Torrejón de Ardoz will not only improve the efficiency of Sesé’s supply chain, but will also have a significant impact on local employment.

It is expected that, at peaks of activity, up to 150 people will be able to work in these facilities, contributing to the economic development of the region.
